Hello, everyone, welcome. It is a pleasure to have you here on the Money and Miracles podcast with myself, emily King.
Speaker 1:So two things One, my microphone decided to stop working, so the audio quality might be a little different here today, and that's okay, we're rolling with it. And number two, we're going to start with a prayer. Now, I don't mean a religious prayer, but just basically an opening statement to help us out, to help set the tone, so to speak. So if you will place your hand on your heart, if you can and if you'd like to, and if it's safe to go ahead and close your eyes, spirit universe, god. We spirit universe, god. We pray for strength to come into our hearts, for us to feel restored, for us to feel your protection and your hand at work. We surrender any defeating thoughts to you and remember that thy will be done. May we find peace where we are, and may we always remember that we are protected and greatness is in store for us. Amen, woo, okay now, why did I want to start with that? Want to start with that? I'm feeling a call to my spiritual roots. So for those of you that have been hanging out with me for the last 10 years since I've been doing this, my roots are in spirituality and in energy healing and in doing the woo stuff talking to guides and spirits and angels and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1:And I was very greatly influenced by Gabby Bernstein in my early days. I don't know if you're familiar with her work, but she talks a lot about miracles and in this very moment I'm looking across from me and I see her book May Cause Miracles on my bookshelf, and that was one of my first books that I got from her. And then there's also a book there right below it called Miracles Now. And so I very much started my path in the miracle work and it's funny how life can be sometimes like full circle, where it takes you back to your beginnings and not that I'm, you know, not going to be talking money, mindset and all that kind of stuff, but, in particular, right now, I want to come back to the miracle side of things because I want to share a little something with you, and you may have seen this, I share this on my stories on Instagram, but, in case you never, I want to share what's been going on with life lately. So I am pregnant yes, I am, at the time of this recording, nine weeks pregnant and little baby is due on Christmas day. So it's very exciting times over here, preparing for, you know, know, new changes and all that kind of stuff. And um, with that has come some hardship, some challenging times, and I know that obviously, getting pregnant is such a miracle in and of itself and two things can coexist at the same time Beauty and miracles and hardship and, and you know, resilience building really. And so what I mean by that is I.
Speaker 1:So, as some of you know, when I was, when I gave birth to my first daughter, zoe, I went through some experience with feeling depression and anxiety for the first time ever in my life, and it was the darkest time of my life and the most challenging and hard experience I had ever gone through in my life, because not only did I have a new baby in this world that I was taking care of and responsible for and needing to love, but also I was completely um shook, I guess we'll say. And so that was a journey in and of itself and one that I've spoken about publicly before and I have a podcast on it. And this time round I was aware of the fact that, you know, with the hormonal changes and all that kind of stuff, to be aware and be conscious of the fact that there could be, you know, feelings of depression or anxiety that arise. And I thought, you know, I wouldn't have to think about that until after the baby came and just kind of be aware, and not that I was projecting that into the future, because I knew very well that it could be a completely different experience and, to my surprise, the symptoms came earlier. So about a week or so ago we got our first ultrasound and I noticed some depressive thoughts started to come up again and it was like I was observing it. It's like it wasn't me, so to speak, if that makes sense. I was witnessing this part of me that was sobbing and thinking negative thoughts and kind of this spiral of thoughts and I was like this is familiar, you know, anywho. So all this, to say the last, about I guess almost two weeks now I've been navigating the experience of similar symptoms I had in postpartum, of anxiety and depression.
Speaker 1:So I share that publicly, because there are so many people who suffer alone and so many people who, when hard things happen, they go into isolation and they go. I have to fix this on my own and I am here to tell you that if, if this podcast serves as anything today for you, let it be this that no struggle that you go through needs to be dealt with alone, that there are people out there to help, that there are spiritual solutions, that there are practical solutions. There are doctors, medications, all sorts of methods to helping you with wherever you are in life, and so start with whatever little thing that is. I know you're listening to this podcast, so that's a wonderful first start, but can there be a friend that you reach out to? Can there be a therapist that you reach out to? Can there be a book that you pick up and start to read? You are responsible for changing your life. No one else, and I know that when there are mental health struggles, or maybe not even mental health when there's a other type of illness diagnosis, or you lose your job or you're going through divorce, or whatever it might be. It feels like the world is ending and it feels like things are never going to get better. But I am here to tell you that things get better, and so I want this to be a podcast today to share with you some wisdom and insight that's helped me the last couple weeks and what I'm doing to move through this experience and some things to take for yourself as tangible tools to make your journey maybe lighter or easier or less of a burden.
Speaker 1:The first thing I want to say is that and I learned this when I was doing my NLP coaching training is to be very mindful of saying I am or I have, or so. For example, I have depression, I am depressed, I'm anxious, I'm a very anxious person. Be very mindful of stating things in such a way where it becomes a part of you, because that makes it nearly impossible to get separation from it and to see it as something separate from you and to then start to heal it. Not that we're denying what you're experiencing, but when we use the I am-ing, you become what you are right. So if you're saying I am depressed, I am anxious, I am stuck, I'm not confident, whatever it might be, stop saying those words about yourself. So here's how I shift it and I, and you'll notice, I never say I have depression, I have anxiety.
Speaker 1:I like to use the words or the phrase I'm experiencing this, I'm experiencing this. And even you can go to the next step to get even more clarity on naming it and really factually naming it. So, for example, if my chest, if my heart starts racing a little bit more, naming that, not saying oh my God, this is anxiety, it's so overwhelming, um, all consuming. Whatever I go, okay, interesting, my chest is racing a little bit, how can I allow this to slow down? Could be tapping, could be breathing. Could be some nice affirmations. I found some really good affirmations on insight timer where it says like I love you, you, you get to be here. Where it says like I love you, you get to be here, I accept you Right. These really like calming ones where, instead of trying to push it away, like go away, I don't want you here, what you resist pers my, my beautiful, amazing friend, slash therapist, jo Re, she called me out on this just yesterday.
Speaker 1:I kept calling it my healing journey and she said to me she said you know, whenever you, whenever you're speaking those words, my healing journey. She said something kind of I feel this like, kind of like something in my chest whenever you say that. And she just paused for a moment and looked at me and said Emily, you're not broken, there's nothing to fix. So how can you shift the way that you're talking about this experience? Instead of saying I'm healing, shift the way that you're talking about this experience. Instead of saying I'm healing, maybe say I'm navigating some hardship right now, or I'm navigating something that's tough but there's nothing to heal because you're not broken, you're not flawed, this is a human experience that you're going through. And so I offer that to you of you're not broken, there's nothing to fix. And if we can change our language around that, that can be hugely releasing. So now, instead of feeling like I'm healing because I'm flawed and I have these hormonal imbalances going on and blah, blah, blah, it's like, no, this is a human experience, that's what I'm going through. So how can you lean into spirit, into God, into whatever faith you have in these hardships? Well, one is to remember that God is there with you, or universe, whatever you want to call it, and I and and and God. Universe works through people, works through podcasts, works through signs, works through so many ways. It's not you needing to sit in prayer or sit in silence and receive downloads and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1:So I went on this beautiful family trip last weekend for the long May 24th weekend here in Canada, and on my way out I was needing some inspiration and there's this woman that I follow. Her name is Angela Manuel Davis and she's the founder, and I think she's since sold her portion of the business. But she started up this soul cycle company called Army A-A-R-M-Y and her stuff used to pop up on my Instagram because when she was teaching spin classes she was so inspirational, so moving, so motivating, and so when I randomly and I say randomly in quotations, because nothing is random in this journey so I was driving out to the West coast it was an eight hour drive last weekend and it drops into my head put on like search for Angela Manuel Davis in Spotify and see what podcasts come up. So I searched her name and I opened up one from her on Oprah. I had no idea she had been on Oprah and she was doing a motivational talk and my jaw nearly hit the floor because when she started speaking she started to share her story. And I hadn't followed her for years and I did not know this part of her story until that very moment.
Speaker 1:She said I had my two babies. You know, one was a bit older, so they were sitting on the couch snuggled up to me and my other baby was, you know, breastfeeding and I was sitting on the couch. And she said I had postpartum depression. So I'm sitting there in the car going. Oh my god, like she's speaking to me. This this was, this was meant to be.
Speaker 1:And she said my husband came home and he said I went to the studio that was a spin studio down the road and I told them you're going to come in and come in for a class. So he said you know, get up, get your clothes on, go down the road and I want you to go see them. So this is something completely random. No one would ever think okay, I'm going to a spin class, so that's going to change my destiny. So she goes down to the spin studio, she signs up for a five day pass or five class pass, and within the first class she knew like I meant to do this. She signed up for her teacher training and one thing leads to another and she's opening her own spin studio and has just done profound things since then as a motivator, as a businesswoman, as a human in this world. Like you know, within five years of that, she's standing on Oprah's stage.
Speaker 1:So was that random Absolutely not For me to put on this podcast, hearing the story of someone being so down sitting on the couch, you know, just consumed by their depression and tears, and woe is me. And for her husband to come home and just say go to a spin class, right, and for her life to change from that one moment. Right, and for her life to change from that one moment. So that was not random that that podcast was placed in my path. And so what have been the signs for you that have been placed in your path? And I'm going to give you something at the end of this podcast as a little takeaway and exercise for you that's really going to show you how truly supported you are, and I'm really excited for this. Truly supported you are and I'm really excited for this.
Speaker 1:Another cool thing happened when we, when we had our trip on the west coast so obviously we had packed our clothes and we packed it in a suitcase and when we're leaving the west coast to come back on this past Monday, I opened up the suitcase and I had been having a bit of a hard morning. And I opened up the suitcase and I don't know how this landed in my suitcase, but there was a little sheet of paper it was like a little card, because I have this Oracle card deck with just one word, one words on it. It could be patience or happiness or joy, whatever it might be, and somehow one of those oracle cards, these little tiny oracle cards, ended up in my suitcase and the word that was on this paper was faith. So I burst into tears when I opened my suitcase because I knew right away that spirit, that spirit saying I got you, I got you, emily. I know that right now this seems hard, I know that right now you feel stuck. I know right now that you are having a hard time believing, but have faith. And so that little nugget of nudge from spirit was everything that I needed that morning. Last but not least, and then I'm going to share with you.
Speaker 1:The tool that I'd like you to take home with you and practice is I reached out to my sister this past week just to share with her what was going on, because I like to say that you know, if you let the thoughts sit in your brain, it becomes like you ever put towels in the wash and then you forget about them. And then you go and it might be a day or two later and you're like, oh my God, they smell moldy, they're gross. Like you wouldn't just then throw them in the dryer and be like, all right, we're good, you'd have to wash them again, right? So I like to think of when we're letting the thoughts just sit in our brains without getting them out, without sharing them, and in particular, negative thoughts or unhelpful thoughts. It's like those moldy towels just sitting in the wash for days on end. It's like no wring it out, and how you do that is you share it with someone.
Speaker 1:And so I called up my amazing sister and we were having a good chat and I knew that she had gone through some hardship a few months ago and there were some encouraging words from her that I'm going to share with with you guys because I think they're going to help us all. Where she said this and and it just moved me so much she said I know I am always protected. I just know that in my core. And she said I've gone through much harder things than this before in my life. And one of my personal favorite sayings is I have a hundred percent success rate of overcoming every challenge I've ever faced. And I'm willing to bet that you do too, because you're here, you standing here, you're sitting and you're listening, and you have a hundred percent success rate of overcoming every single challenge you've ever faced that exam that you thought was impossible, or that relationship that you didn't want to end, or that job you really wanted that you didn't get, whatever it is. You have a hundred percent success rate of overcoming every challenge you've ever faced. You have a hundred percent success rate of overcoming every challenge you've ever faced and so that, knowing of I am always protected, I hope that that gives you some reassurance there today that you are always protected, and this last exercise that I'm going to share with you is going to prove that to you.
Speaker 1:And I got to give credit to the amazing Wendy Batten who reached out to me. She um, signed up for my vision board workshop that we did just a couple of weeks ago. And she said to me Emily, you know something that I also did, cause I gave a little, a little extra tip in my vision board workshop, a little secret tip of mine. But she gave me another amazing tip that I'm going to share with you, where she said, emily, I created a proof board. And I was like so intrigued like a proof board, what's that? And she said it's a board of all the things I've manifested that basically, she couldn't even even dreamt of right ways that god and the universe showed up for her, that she didn't even ask for. So it could be like a free night stay at a hotel or a speaking gig that she got invited to go do. That wasn't even on her radar. Um, a beautiful home. You know that she manifests whatever it might be, but all of us here today, every single one of us, has proof of how the universe has shown up for us when we least expected it. And even if you take five minutes and I did this on one of my coaching calls the other day with my prosperity program group we took five minutes, maybe not even, I think it was like three minutes just to write down our proof of how God, universe, has shown up for us time and time again without our asking, just to give us that grace and that faith of I got you.
Speaker 1:So I think back to a time in my life when I was in my mid-20s and I thought that I would have life figured out. I thought, for sure, by the time you get your master's degree you'll know what you want to do and you'll kind of have a path that you want to take for your career and all that kind of stuff. And it was very important to me and it still is that I'm doing work that I love and I'm doing work that contributes. And when I graduated in in my mid-20s and still had no idea what I was meant to do in this world, that was so defeating. It felt like my world was over because it felt like I had no purpose in this world, felt like, what the hell am I even doing here? Like God, what's going on? And God gave me Such little subtle nudges that I took that led me to where I am today and that is my proof there the call I got when I was living in Halifax, living with my husband and then boyfriend.
Speaker 1:At the time he was going to school and I was trying to figure my way out and my dad called me from home and said hey, we just had someone quit at the office. Do you want to come home and work for me? Because he knew that I was struggling to find a job and this job was in nothing that I was trained for as a project manager and estimator for a commercial HVAC company. I had no idea what I was doing and I told him I was like dad, I don't know how to do that. He's like that's okay, you'll learn on the job. So I moved home, still kind of like what the hell am I doing? What? Why am I doing this job?
Speaker 1:And long story short, that job ended up being the best thing ever to happen to me because, a I think it gave me that stability, you know, that kind of foundation of of just settling in to life. B it gave me a relationship with my dad and my family like I'd never had before and would have never gotten had I never worked in that job. And C the flexibility it gave me of the time working in a family business allowed me to then take coaching, trainings and kind of do coaching on the side and build my coaching business so that I could eventually step away from that job when the time came. And so that seemingly random phone call and random job I was taking was was the universe setting me up for greatness. You know, my business to this day has done over a million dollars in sales, like that's huge. That is huge.
Speaker 1:And it all started from that desperation when I was living in Halifax, literally crying myself to sleep every night, saying what the hell am I doing with my life, and I thought my world was over. I thought I I had no meaning or no purpose. But through the grace of God, I'm sitting here today. Yeah, I'm in in a in a hardship, but I know I'm going to get through and I know that with the help of friends and family and support systems like therapy and doctors and all that kind of stuff, I'm going to come out stronger on the other side. So I hope this has encouraged you today.
