Hello rich woman, how are you? Happy Friday, which is the day that this podcast is going live. So happy weekend, happy start to your weekend. Let's hope that it's a lovely one or whatever you want, relaxing upbeat.
Speaker 1:I know for me we are in major nesting mode, but you guys know when, like you're decluttering and it gets worse before it gets better. That's where we are. Like our basement right now is a disaster because there's stuff everywhere as we declutter and make room for for the new. But anyhow, that's neither here nor there. It's not what you came here for. We came here today because we want to talk about going from the ordinary to the extraordinary and for years I've been talking about living the rich woman life and that really is extraordinary living. But here's the thing I want to preface this whole podcast episode with is that extraordinary living doesn't mean extravagant living.
Speaker 1:I remember a few years ago one of my closest friends when it was like New Year's and you're doing the classic like review on your year and how it all went and all that kind of stuff, and she said to me I found the extraordinary in the ordinary. And that stuck with me obviously ever since and that was a few years ago Because I thought like how freaking beautiful is it to get to the end of your year and just be so appreciative and so grateful for having really found the extraordinary in the ordinary moments. And that's what I feel is like the true richness of life. Like, yes, sometimes the extravagant things can be amazing, like the first time I ever flew first class, it was like oh, oh, my God, like I was taking pictures, I was ordering the champagne, like all the things. And also like I remember the other morning my daughter Zoe she's really into pretending that she's a puppy dog now and so the other morning I was sitting on the couch and just relaxing and we were getting ready to go to school and all that kind of stuff to drop my little girl off to school and she was crawling around the floor pretending she was a puppy dog and my husband was playing with her and it was just like one of those moments of like appreciation and gratitude and really finding that love for the simplest of moments and just being like wow, like I love this life, you know. So I wanted to preface this episode with that because I think so often we can get confused that extraordinary living means extravagant living and needing to live a life. That's not totally aligned with you. Maybe it is. Maybe extravagant living is your alignment and that's totally cool. So, whatever you're into, right, I know I do love some luxuries of life and there's some things that I don't care for, right. But today I want to bring to you a few concepts that really helped me go from ordinary living to extraordinary living, and some of them might surprise you. I know one in particular really surprised me. It was like, oh, and it came from the book uh, think and Grow Rich, which is like a classic. I think it was written like literally a hundred years ago. It was written a while ago, um. So, without further ado, let's get started.
Speaker 1:Hello and welcome to the Money and Miracles podcast with me, emily King. We call ourselves Rich Women over here because we are all about living the rich woman life inside and out. We take the taboo out of talking money and we say yes to our desires, and each week I'll be bringing you a dose of money, mindset and relatable life stories so you can go out into the world and live your best freaking life. Let's do this, rich Woman, okay. So first of all, I want to share with you something very exciting. You know when there's like a hard thing that you want to accomplish and then you do it and you feel like you can take on the world. Well, that's what happened to me just recently.
Speaker 1:I created a quiz called Going From Ordinary to Extraordinary and it has you reflect on the different areas of your life, like could be boundaries, self-care, all that kind of stuff. There's 20 questions in there and it really gives you that overview of, like, what kind of life are you living? Are you living in this ordinary life? Are you kind of staying in your comfort zone? Are you kind of in the middle, or are you living the extraordinary life already? And no matter where you are in your journey, when you complete the quiz you're going to get some tips and tricks. You're going to get like, some journal prompts, some book recommendations, some action steps, all that kind of stuff to start to make those little tweaks in your life, to improve it even more. Even if you are already living this extraordinary life that you love and you feel like you're rocking it, there's even more tips in there to keep growing with that.
Speaker 1:So I want to start with that because, like I said, I felt like such a badass when I created that quiz because I was getting stuck on some tech glitches and I was like, oh, I can't figure this out. And then I did and I'm so proud of it. I love this quiz. It's so practical, it's so useful and I think you're gonna love it. So I'm gonna link it up in the show notes. If you forget to go to the show notes, just go to jointheshiftca and it'll be at the top of the website, like in the little banner. It'll say, um, take the quiz now. So, jointheshiftca, but I'll also link it up, the direct link to the quiz in the show notes so you can go take it.
Speaker 1:So let's talk about some quick little tips on how you can start to go from ordinary to extraordinary. So the first thing that I mentioned in the intro that I first heard of in the book Think and Grow Rich was this whole notion that well, he talks about poor people versus rich people, but I think it really applies to ordinary versus extraordinary. So I'll, you know, kind of shift it a little bit. But essentially, ordinary people are slow to make decisions and quick to change their mind, and extraordinary people are quick to make decisions and slow to change their mind, which, when I first read that was like oh, whoa.
Speaker 1:Because when you think about it, when you're stuck and I'm sure we've all been there we like can't figure out a decision. We feel like we're in our heads, we're in worry, we're in the what if? What if this happens, what if this, what will this person think? And we really feel stuck. And that's when we're in that ordinary living, when we're in our stuck in our heads and we're slow to make those decisions. And then when we eventually do make the decisions, sometimes then we get stuck in like, oh well, did I make the right decision? What if it doesn't work out? What if I made the wrong decision? Oh, but there's this other option over there. And then we like jump ship and we go to the next thing. And so I was like whoa, whoa, whoa. Like you are in control over your life, you get to live this extraordinary life and over the years, as I've elevated my life, if you will, I've really turned into a person who is decisive about what they want.
Speaker 1:And yes, a person who is decisive about what they want. And yes, like that doesn't mean I'm just, like you know, blowing money left, right and center and just making decisions to travel to Fiji on a whim, although I have made decisions to travel last minute before. But it is to say that when there's something that I know that I want, I make it happen, despite fears, despite the what ifs, despite what could go wrong. I'm quick to make up my mind and decide on something and I'm slow to change it, like once I'm committed, I'm committed to it, like that becomes my non-negotiable. So check in with yourself of where can you be more decisive about what you want? And you can start super small with this like even practice.
Speaker 1:When you go to a restaurant, maybe you're the type of person that takes forever and mulls it over oh, what do I want for dinner? Do I want the shrimp? Do I want the pasta? Do I want the whatever? Check in and get, get really like heart-centered and intuitive with like what do I want? What do I truly want? And, like I said, start small. It could be just choosing what you want. When you go to a restaurant, it could be picking your outfit for the day. But practice that decisive energy because, like I said, if there's one thing I've come to learn as I've expanded and elevated my business, my life, my bank account, it's been. This decisiveness and this belief of this is going to work out. Even if, seemingly, in the short term it doesn't work out, it will work out in the long term. Okay, woohoo, all right, so that is number one.
Speaker 1:Number two and this one's a big one and I believe I touched on it before in a past podcast, but I'm going to bring it up again because it's so important which is ordinary people dislike parts of themselves and really let those parts of themselves hold them back. That's when you'll find people really holding themselves back out of imposter syndrome. Who am I to do this? They find themselves stuck in a rut because they just are stuck in fear around taking the action out of this like it's not perfect, it's not good enough, so-and-so is doing better than me. Oftentimes you'll find this ordinary person living in a lot of comparison. Oftentimes you'll find this ordinary person living in a lot of comparison, right.
Speaker 1:So it's not that we need to think that we're perfect and amazing to live an extraordinary life, but we don't let the parts of ourselves that are, you know, quote-unquote flawed. If you will hold us back and so extraordinary people embrace and celebrate all parts of who they are. Like I know I have my flaws. I know I have squirrel brain, like. I know there's things like. I know I'm not the most organized person in the world and I know that doesn't hold me back from growing a million dollar business, right. Hold me back from growing a million dollar business, right.
Speaker 1:So here's here's, a few tips on how to shift more into the extraordinary living around this, which is one and this was so profound at our shift event that Gina and I put off a couple of weekends ago which is literally holding a mirror up or looking in a mirror if it's on the wall, and literally saying to yourself I love you. We did that, that, we did that exercise at the shift event and you would be shocked at how many people got emotional, saying to themselves I love you, because we're so used to picking on ourselves. Yes, so actionable. Step number one practice saying I love you in the mirror and if that's even too hard or too challenging for you to do, start without the mirror. Just say, like, sitting there, whether you're in a car or you're sitting on the couch right now, just say out loud to yourself I love you, I love you, okay. So that's step number one. Step Step number two is to.
Speaker 1:I love to practice this fill in the blank statement thing. So you fill in the blank with even though I blank like in my case it's like, even though I'm not the most organized person in the world, or even though I procrastinate sometimes, I, and then you flip it to what you desire I still get to be a millionaire, I still am enough to grow a thriving business, I still get to be the best in my industry. I still believe in myself and my desires, you know. So, even though fill in the blank for the quote unquote flaw and I say I say that in quotations, cause it's not actually a flaw, it's just we're all human right and then, on the flip side of that, then embrace and claim what you want, because here's the truth of the matter is that, like, the most successful people in the world from a financial point of view are flawed, right, and they just don't give a shit, like they just keep going forward knowing that they're enough. And last but not least, is the point I wanted to talk about, which I said earlier I think I may have touched on previous podcast is this whole notion of this money block of perfectionism.
Speaker 1:Now, perfectionism is not a new concept, like I'm sure you're aware that it can hold you back and all that kind of stuff. But here's the interesting thing which I was reading in the book Tapping Into Wealth by Margaret Lynch, where essentially her chapter that she's talking about perfectionism is we hold ourselves back out of perfectionism, thinking it's not enough, I need to improve it, it needs to be better, whatever, and we don't launch the thing. Or even if we do launch the thing or put the thing out there, whatever that is, like it be at a new course or a new business of yours or whatever we don't give it the real oomph behind it because we have this like unconscious belief of like it's not really that good. So this perfectionist in us becomes this elusive goal that we never actually achieve because because perfectionism is never actually like an end point, right, we will never our ego, our ego will never let us believe it's perfect. So it becomes this ever-moving goalpost that we never get to. So we never fully allow ourselves to embrace all the wealth and the extraordinary life that we can possibly be living, because we're stuck in this. It's not enough, right?
Speaker 1:I remember when I read that and I know I'm kind of paraphrasing and summarizing there, but I remember when I first read that in Margaret Lynch's book, it was like, oh, and I've done my work over the years to overcome perfectionism, but I realized that like it still was being really sneaky. So, for example, like I know my meditations are amazing. I've had countless people write me saying how amazing my meditations are. I know that I could really crank it up on promoting that, on doing more with it, and in the same breath, at a subconscious level well, now more conscious ever since reading that book it's like there's this part of me that's like well, you know, the Calm app is pretty epic. The Calm app has thousands of meditations and it's organized in this way and you need to organize your meditations in that way and it's just like comparing myself against the big behemoths in the meditation space and going well, you need to have it like that before you can really believe in it and really launch it into the world.
Speaker 1:If I'm being totally honest, right, and that's BS I could be impacting a lot of people's lives and making a lot of money for my meditations if I so desired. And so that's on my goal list before the end of the year is to really double down on the meditations, because I know they're so good, I know they're so effective, I know they help people so greatly and it's about time for me to get in my own way and start talking about it more and doing more with them, and I'm ready for it. So that's the second thing on going from ordinary to extraordinary. And then, last but not least, is that I think probably one of the biggest opportunities for growth from ordinary to extraordinary is, well, ordinary people fear failure and avoid risks at all costs, right? Extraordinary people view failure as a learning experience and actually seek it out for growth, right? So for even even creating this quiz, this ordinary to extraordinary quiz, I know it's not like a huge failure if nobody signs up for it or what have you, but there was a part of me that was like you know, emily, this is going to take some time. You don't really have a whole lot of time to dedicate to creating this quiz. Maybe you shouldn't do it. What if nobody likes it? What if it's a flop? And I had that moment like kind of that internal conversation with myself going I'm willing to fail at it because I think it's going to be awesome, and if it flops, so be it. I'm willing to fail at that. And you know I'll learn and grow and all that and that's been huge for me, moving my business and my life forward.
Speaker 1:I remember one of the first workshops I ever did. I was terrified about launching it into the world and I thought like, oh, like, what if I post about this online workshop I'm doing and nobody signs up? Or one person signs up and then I look like a loser because there's only one person on my workshop or whatever, and I wrote down all these fears and then I shifted it to so what? So that's the first kind of exercise you can do with yourself of like write out the fears. What if it's a waste of money? What if nobody shows up? What if I embarrass myself? What if, whatever, you know, right at the what ifs and then, on the flip side of that, right at the so what?
Speaker 1:So let me explain when, going back to that webinar example, when I examined, you know what if nobody signs up, the so what if that was so? What if nobody signs up? I'll be damn proud of myself for just launching it into the world, because I've been talking about doing this for ages and I can celebrate the fact that I just launched it and, and you know, be super happy that I did that. Uh, so what if one person shows up? So what if one person shows up? I'm going to rock the hell out of that workshop. I'm going to deliver amazing value and I'm going to use a hell out of that workshop. I'm going to deliver amazing value and I'm going to use a replay to keep that value going and, you know, give people FOMO that they missed out and now they can catch the replay Right. So you take your power back on the fear versus the fear leading the way, and I've done this with investments.
Speaker 1:So you know, right now I'm actually the doors are open for my, mine and Gina's extraordinary life experience coaching program. We do it once a year. It's an eight week long experience. It's a coaching, a group coaching program, and we really take you from where you are to where you want to be, no matter if you're just starting out. And this is not a business program. You can apply to business, but it can be. You know you're an empty nester now and you just want to discover, like, what's my next step, what's my next evolution in life, what's that next chapter for me? Or it can be. You know, we've worked with clients in the program who are expanding their businesses and actually adding new business ventures into their life. So me personally, I've gotten so freaking good at investing in myself and investing in my business, even though there's, like you know, the quote unquote risk there. Or like, what if it doesn't work out? What if I sign up for this program and I don't get the result that I wanted or what have you is I trust to know that I will always get exactly what I need from every investment I make, even the ones that and this rarely happens, that have you know, quote unquote flocked.
Speaker 1:So quick example is years ago I really wanted to get involved in doing some Facebook ads and it really confused me, it really overwhelmed me and I thought you know what Screw it? Like I'm just going to pay someone to do the Facebook ads. I have no idea what to do with them, how to work them. I didn't know anything about Facebook ads so I said I'm just going to pay someone to run with it. It worked out to be about like $4,000 that I paid this person and I got zilch from it, like yes, they were running a couple ads, but like it was just a disaster of an experience. Like I didn't understand any of it. There was no um intention behind the ads, like it was just. It really felt like throwing spaghetti at a wall and just like watching it slowly but surely fall off the wall and splatter. So, to be honest, I was really pissed at myself at the time. I was like Emily, you idiot, that was a waste of four grand. Like you shouldn't have done that, blah, blah, blah.
Speaker 1:But I tell you like I took radical responsibility for that investment and that was a huge business lesson learned for me of at least personally, no matter what I'm hiring for, I want to know at least a little bit about it and not really just like give all my power away to someone else and just go like run with it. You know, it's my business at the end of the day and I want to have my finger on the pulse and know what's up and really have that intention and that alignment with everything. And so I've since gone on to invest in Facebook ad courses where I know, like I now know how these work and I know like what different stats and all that kind of stuff means and what ad is doing well and what's not doing well and all that kind of stuff. Now, that's not to say I'm going to be a Facebook ads expert I don't want to be, but I would feel much more comfortable now hiring someone out and and know the questions to ask and know how to really vet who's going to do an amazing job. Um, versus before, I just just kind of went into it blindly, right. So that's not to scare you, but to say like I've invested in things over and over and over again.
Speaker 1:And I remember when I invested to work with one of my mentors in her mastermind, it was a big investment at the time for me. I think it was something like 20 grand or something like that to work with her for I think it was nine months. And I just did it. I just invested because I just knew in my heart of hearts that it was my next step. And I remember my husband came home from work and I told him I was like I invested to work in a mastermind and I told him how much it was. And he was like are you sure about this? And I was like when have I ever invested in myself and it not worked out? Right? And he couldn't refute that Like he couldn't, he had no argument against it. He was like, yeah, you're right, right, every investment in myself, there comes growth, and I think that is the true, like essence of extraordinary living, even if you know, like I said, on the surface it seems like an investment or like a risk that you take, for example, doesn't work out in your favor in the moment, because it's just like all the investments, all that willingness to move forward and risk failure is building that resilience within you is building you know internal lessons, is building growth and it just can't be matched right.
Speaker 1:So I think a question to help you figure out how you can start to move the needle towards that more extraordinary living and that more like trust, faith, space, is to ask yourself if I knew I couldn't fail, if I trusted myself and knew that I couldn't fail, what would I invest in? What would I do? What would be my next action step If you really stepped into that world of failure? Is is not even on the table. Success, growth, opportunity is is on the table.
Speaker 1:If you take that next step, if you knew and trusted that you were held, that you were supported, that you were being guided every step of the way, what would be that next step for you, and maybe it is investing in something like the Extraordinary Life Experience. By the way, we kick off in a week-ish from now, on, the 21st of October, so you have about a week or so to sign up. If you do feel compelled to join that, I'll link it up in the show notes. It's at jointheshipca. You can check it out there. But, yeah, really leaning into like what would that next step be for me, right? Maybe it's getting a membership to the gym, maybe it's hiring a personal trainer, maybe it's it's getting a membership to the gym, maybe it's hiring a personal trainer, maybe it's booking that trip, whatever it might be. But there is some action step I guarantee you that can take you from that ordinary to extraordinary place. So, once again, I will link up the quiz in the show notes, because the quiz I'm super proud of and it's super practical and helpful and gives you like step-by-step guidance on how you can go into more of an extraordinary life.
Speaker 1:If you want to check out the group program, go to jointheshiftca. I'll link it up in the show notes. It's the Extraordinary Life Experience. It is a phenomenal program, gina and I have poured our heart and souls into it and you're just gonna love it and I can guarantee you it will be an experience that you will not forget and you will not regret and it will truly help you step more into that extraordinary life that you so deserve and get to live right now.
